About

The Ballard Brief is a program within the BYU Ballard Social Impact Center, the world’s most extensive university social impact program. The Ballard Social Impact Center aims to help students become active participants in solving the world’s most pressing social problems. To facilitate this goal, we provide high-quality research opportunities to inform students about the complexities of and best alleviating strategies for current social issues.

Mission

Our Mission is to advance social impact by providing the world with high-quality Briefs about current social challenges. We emphasize sound research and analysis to fully explore current world issues and practices.

Program

Our program hosts a curated research library of Briefs that analyze social issues around the globe. Ballard Briefs are written by undergraduate and graduate students and are edited by an exceptional editorial team. Briefs have a unique structure and style that explores an issue’s context, contributing factors, consequences, and practices.

All Ballard Briefs are meticulously reviewed by our editorial team before publication. Each Brief is researched and analyzed through many different academic and investigative lenses before publication. These lenses include a deeper look into the issue’s political implications, macro or micro perspectives, historical significance, cyclical nature, etc. This approach ensures that those who access our published content are receiving the best, most accurate, and most well-rounded reviews available. Our Ballard Briefs act as a high-quality —yet easily accessible—starting point for readers to begin to understand the nuances of each social issue that is presented in the library.

Values

As a curated research library, we believe that understanding a social issue is the key to alleviating the social issue. Rather than advocating for certain positions, we emphasize a fair analysis of research and professional writing. By using a Ballard Brief to advance your research, you can be confident that you are receiving transparent and unbiased analysis of the complexities of the issue.
